Project Statement
My senior thesis was to find a real-world problem and display a possible solution through Graphic Design. My thesis is Swapt.
Swapt helps people explore their gender with clothes. Transpeople have always faced the problem of finding clothing that not only affirms their gender but also is fashionable and fitting. There are hundreds of different outlets that sell and manufacture clothing, but the sizing is widely inconsistent. Because of this, it’s challenging to find gender-affirming clothes.
Based on my personal experience, I decided to design Swapt with what would’ve helped other queer people and me to shop for clothing. Swapt provides information about clothing that is more easily accessible and to help how a piece of clothing will fit them. It goes into detail beyond what the label of the clothing indicates, but also how it will fit explicitly them. Swapt curates clothing based on their gender preference and lifestyle to find gender-affirming clothing for everyone.
Thesis Display
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design holds a yearly senior show demonstrating graduating students' skills and talents. Each student is given an area to display the work they've developed for the last eight months, akin to a tradeshow. As part of my proposal, I gave an outline of how my display would look like and what contents of items would be shown in conjunction with other students' works. It was a continuous process in which the space of the display changed and coordinating with faculty for equipment. I painted the walls, applied vinyl, and created marketing collateral to support the thesis space
