Project Statement
The Gray Area, a vital component of the Hawthorn Contemporary Gallery, is dedicated to showcasing emerging artists in Milwaukee. For an upcoming exhibition focused on the creative interpretation of homonyms and homophones, I was tasked with designing a compelling 12x18 poster for distribution across Milwaukee and creating engaging social media posts for The Gray Area's official Instagram account. The primary challenge was the tight one-week deadline to complete the project, ensuring ample time for printing and exhibition promotion.
To address this challenge, I began with a quick yet thorough brainstorming session to generate design concepts that would capture the essence of the exhibition. Prioritizing efficiency, I created several initial mock-ups and sought immediate feedback from the gallery's curatorial team. This iterative process allowed for rapid adjustments and refinements, ensuring the design met the gallery's expectations and effectively communicated the exhibition's theme.
The final poster design featured bold, eye-catching graphics and typography highlighting the playful nature of homonyms and homophones. At the same time, the social media posts were crafted to engage and intrigue followers, driving interest and attendance.
